We’re thrilled to share that Proxima Powder Metallurgy Ltd. has been named the winner of the HIP25 International Best Part Competition. Judged by the expert panel of the International HIP Committee, our submission was selected as the standout among four global entries for its innovation, performance, and potential industry impact.
The Challenge
Our entry focused on reimagining the main landing gear wing rib, a primary structural component in aerospace. Instead of relying on traditional and material-intensive forging or machining processes, we developed a fully optimised Near Net Shape (NNS) PM-HIP titanium solution—a major step forward in cost-efficiency and sustainability.
Innovation in Action
Proxima’s novel method of fabricating canisters enables :
Elimination of the need for expensive hard tooling
Delivery of fully isotropic titanium components that exceed minimum wrought standards
The technique has been used to manufacture an aerospace structural component, highlighting
a dramatic reduction in Buy-to-Fly ratio from 7.66 (wrought forging) to 3.2 (PM-HIP)
a reduction in machining to an average of just 5mm, significantly cutting material waste
The component is currently progressing through flight approval, demonstrating real-world readiness. Presentation of the manufacturing process behind this component enable Proxima to win the prestigious “Best Part” competition at the 2025 World HIP Conference in Aachen, Germany
A True Team Effort
This award reflects the skill, collaboration, and dedication of the entire Proxima team. From engineering and process design to machining and delivery, every part of the company played a role in this success. It’s a proud moment that showcases what’s possible when innovation meets teamwork.
